George and Stacey start life in their new home by getting engaged

A couple had two big reasons to celebrate as they moved into their first home and got engaged at the same time.

George Barke proposed to his fiance Stacey Bryan as they received the keys to their first home, at Bellway's Rodford Mews development in Yate.

The couple, who have been together for just over two years, bought a three-bedroom home, after previously living with their parents.

George, 28, who works as an auto-electrician, said he had planned to propose to Stacey since the end of November.

He said: "I'd been planning to propose to Stacey towards the end of last year, and it just seemed like the perfect time to do it with us moving into our first home.

"I was very nervous and my hands were actually shaking when it was happening.

"I was so happy when she said yes, and we're both really excited to start making some plans for the big day."

Stacey, 29, who works as an engagement officer for South Gloucestershire council, said she had no idea that George was planning to propose.

She said: "I had absolutely no idea what he was planning. When we went to get the keys for our new home, I noticed that his hands were shaking so I thought he might be up to something, but I had no idea that he was going to ask me to marry him!

"We're so excited. I've not stopped looking at my ring since the proposal, and our friends have been round to our new home already with wedding magazines to give me some inspiration.

"We're looking at September 2017 as a possible date, but I'm already making plans now!"
The couple have now settled in to their new home, and said they couldn't be happier with it.

Stacey said: "We fell in love with our home as soon as we saw it. We wanted a new-build so we could use the Help to Buy Equity Loan Scheme, which helped make moving to our first home as affordable and simple as possible.

"We loved this development because it was the right size and the houses were well planned out to give a sense of space.

"We love everything about our new home, and couldn't be happier with how everything has gone."

Sales Manager for Bellway's South West division, Tim Lund, said: "It was fantastic to see George and Stacey start life in their first home by getting engaged, and we wish them both our congratulations and hope they have many happy years in their new home."
