Help to Buy gets first-time buyers Danielle and Simon on the property ladder

First-time buyers Danielle and Simon Dunford have just opened the door to their brand new home at Abbotswood, Taylor Wimpey's sell-out development in Romsey, Hampshire, thanks to the Help to Buy Equity Loan Scheme.

The couple were handed the keys and moved out of the three-bedroom property they rented across town and into their brand new three-bedroom 'Denford' terraced house in December 2015.

Danielle, who works in sales, says: "Before buying this property we were renting a 1960s house just over the road from the development, so this was our first purchase.

"A new-build house really appealed to us as it's simple and easy and it's nice that no one has lived there before."

Danielle and Simon, who works as a building surveyor, chose the 'Denford' housetype as it suited all of their needs.

"Our house is lovely as it's positioned on the outskirts of the development so we have nice views of the surrounding countryside," says Danielle.

"The 'Denford' ticked all of our boxes, as we knew we wanted a house rather than an apartment. It's ideal as we have the second bedroom for when guests stay over and the third bedroom is being used as an office, as I sometimes work from home.

"It's also perfect for Simon as we have a garage, so he can have his man cave!"

The couple used the Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme, which enables first-time buyers as well as existing homeowners who are looking to move, the chance to secure a Government loan for up to 20% of their new home's full price, so they only need a deposit as low as 5% and a 75% mortgage.

The scheme is available on new-build homes up to the value of £600,000 and there's no salary cap for purchasers making use of the initiative.

"Using the Help to Buy Equity Loan has definitely helped make things more comfortable for us", says Danielle, and it has meant we were able to upgrade the interiors such as the flooring and bathroom, so we've been able to personalise our home."

Danielle and Simon found the development offered the perfect location to purchase their first property.

"We're in a great location at Abbotswood," continues Danielle. "The town has lots of amenities such as supermarkets, takeaways and pubs, plus Romsey railway station means we have easy access to London and Southampton."

The pair have been able to make a hassle-free move thanks to the excellent customer service provided by Taylor Wimpey.

Danielle adds: "Everyone at Taylor Wimpey was really helpful. Julia the Sales Executive was so friendly and calls in to make sure everything's going okay. Purchasing with Taylor Wimpey has been a nice, easy process and we love it here!"

Romsey provides all the facilities needed for everyday life, while Southampton, the largest city in Hampshire, is located less than nine miles away, offering a host of cultural and historic attractions as well as shopping and leisure opportunities, including art galleries, shopping centres, bars and restaurants.

Romsey railway station provides direct services to Southampton, Brighton, Bristol and Cardiff, while the town is within 10 miles of both the M27 and M3, providing fast links along the south coast and to London. Southampton Airport, with around 50 destinations to choose from, is just 11 miles away.
