The fact that they've got their own place - and that it's a spacious four-bedroom house at Taylor Wimpey's Lyde Green development near Bristol is still sinking in for first-time buyers Gemma and Liam Williams.

The couple, who've been together for the past eight years, have spent the past five years saving up while living with their respective parents. So they're over the moon that they've finally been able to move out and into a home which surpasses all their expectations.

"We'd been saving up for a very long time," says Gemma. "First of all we looked at two-bedroom homes, then Liam got a promotion and we started looking at three-bedroom places, and realised that with Help to Buy we could afford something even bigger."

They used the Government's Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme which allows purchasers to access a 20% loan for 20% of their new home's full price -they only need a 75% loan-to-value mortgage and a 5% deposit, on houses up to £600,000.

"Help to Buy made all the difference - we would never have been able to afford this house without it."

Lyde Green was the perfect choice for the couple, near their families in Bridgeyate and Cadbury Heath and convenient for work - Gemma, 23, works as a nurse in Bath, while Liam, 26, is a financial assistant manager in the centre of Bristol.

They reserved their three-storey, four-bedroom Gladstone townhouse in September 2015 and visited the development every week to see construction progressing, before moving into their new home in March 2016.

The couple, who co-incidentally share the same surname, are now looking forward to getting married later this year.

"It's only just starting to feel real," Gemma admits. "There's no one thing I like most about the house - it's just that it's our own. Our parents were very helpful while we saved up, but it's so nice having our own space.

"I do particularly like the split level design of the living space - it means we've got a view of the surrounding greenfields and nearby farm from the first-floor living room."

The couple were very impressed with the customer service they received from Taylor Wimpey during the whole process.

"Taylor Wimpey have been amazing," adds Gemma. "They've been so helpful and friendly and have sorted everything out so well."

There's a final choice of three and four-bedroom homes remaining for sale in the current phase at Lyde Green, priced from £340,000.

Meanwhile, a brand new phase of development - Portal at Lyde Green - has just been launched, including two-bedroom houses from £250,000 and four-bedroom properties from £355,000.

Lyde Green is an exciting new community just nine miles north of Bristol, surrounded by rolling Gloucestershire countryside and offering a relaxed, community-centred lifestyle for residents of all ages.

With excellent local amenities and easily accessible transport links, the development will in time benefit from new areas of leafy parkland, schools, leisure facilities, commercial properties and local shops and services on the doorstep as the wider Emersons Green East Urban Extension is constructed.

Lyde Green is a commuters dream, the A4174 provides access to both Bristol and Bath. A brand new park and ride bus route is in the pipeline, and miles of cycleways and footpaths are planned for residents to enjoy.

Bristol Parkway railway station is five miles from home and Bristol Temple Meads station just eight miles away for frequent services to London, the West Country and the North, while Junction 18 of the M4 is also within easy reach.
