Help to Buy South has helped hundreds of people to purchase or rent their new home.  Here are just a few of the success stories:

"Taking the leap was more affordable than I thought"

Kirsty Wigginton was living in a council property in Southampton with her 11-year-old son, Connor, when she discovered an advert for Shared Ownership homes, being offered by Radian, in an ideal location.

The scheme allowed Kirsty, a single working mother, to provide a brand new, spacious home for a growing son, and an ideal location for school and family ties. 'My family are all within walking distance, Connor started at the Sports College which can easily be reached by foot, and we are minutes away from the Royal Victoria Country Park.'

'I didn't realize that it wasn't such a financial leap to become a 60% owner of a property, it was actually quite straightforward and more affordable than I thought.'

Kirsty says of her recently purchased apartment, a new-build development in the village of Netley Abbey, 'My lounge is the feature of my apartment, as everyone walks in and comments on how they never expected it to be so large, and how much they love it.' The two-bed apartment also features a brand new fitted kitchen, a modern bathroom suite, a sizeable balcony, and allocated parking.

Kirsty purchased a 60% share in their 2 bedroom home for £93,000. Shared Ownership will also enable Kirsty to buy further shares in her home, called 'staircasing', if she wants to at a later date, potentially owning the property outright.

She says, 'I would recommend that people look into the scheme as you can buy as little as a 40% share to get onto the property ladder. Council rents are going up on a yearly basis and that's what encouraged me to look at the scheme. I now pay an additional £150 a month and I have my own home it's great.'
