Help to Buy South has helped hundreds of people to purchase or rent their new home.  Here are just a few of the success stories:

"We thought we'd always be renting"

Like many young couples, Rob and Dan thought that owning their own home was just a pipe dream. With high private rents and large mortgage deposit levels required making saving each month increasingly more difficult, the recently civil-partnered couple believed that they would have to settle for rented accommodation for the foreseeable future.

"We had started to look around different local developments," explains Rob, "and they mentioned shared equity schemes could be a way for us to buy rather than rent. We were told about HomesinHants, the HomeBuy Agent for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, who run the FirstBuy scheme, so got in touch with them to apply for the scheme."

FirstBuy is a government equity loan scheme specifically designed to help first time buyers struggling with the need for a large deposit. The scheme can help you purchase a new build home on selected developments with the assistance of an equity loan up to 20% of the value of the home.

Renting in Sandhurst, the Farnborough Central development with its iconic Vulcan House was ideal for Rob and Dan. "The apartment is huge! Everyone that visits can't believe it, we have two double bedrooms, ensuite to our master bedroom and the open plan lounge and kitchen is great."

Dan and Rob reserved their two bedroom apartment in June and had the keys to their first home together by the end of July. Putting down a 5% deposit of under £10,000, the couple now pay just over £700 a month on their mortgage repayments, with nothing to pay on the FirstBuy equity loan for the first five years.

"Buying our home was much easier than we thought it would be HomesinHants, our mortgage advisor and Redrow Homes were all great and made it so easy. I can't believe we have our OWN home!" says Dan.
