Help to Buy South has helped hundreds of people to purchase or rent their new home.  Here are just a few of the success stories:

"I'm so pleased to finally be a homeowner"

Karolina Gozdek, 33 from Portsmouth, aspired to purchase her own property and to have a place she could call home.

Living in shared accommodation, Karolina researched the internet for affordable options. Here she discovered a number of properties available through Help to Buy, where the Shared Ownership scheme was of interest to her.

Shared Ownership enables purchasers to buy a share in a home, paying a low cost rent on the remaining un-purchased share. With mortgage deposits based on the value of the share, buying your first home couldn't be more affordable and could even end up costing you less per month than renting a similar place privately.

Researching more into the scheme and discovering how it could help her take a step onto the property ladder, Karolina registered with HomesinHants, the Help to Buy agent for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Browsing the website, she came across a number of properties that met her needs.

Karolina said "I registered my interest on my preferred properties and was so pleased when I heard that I had been prioritised for one of my choices, a two bed resale apartment in Portsmouth through Radian." she added "I arranged a viewing with the existing shared owners and contacted Radian. I was delighted to hear that I was accepted for the scheme."

Karolina was given the contact details of Independent Financial Advisors who specialised in Shared Ownership schemes and mortgages.

"After making an appointment with the financial advisor, it was great to know that it wouldn't be long until I would have the keys to my new home!" explained Karolina.

Karolina purchased a 40% share of the £112,500 property. Monthly costs are just over £500 in mortgage, rent and service charges combined, considerably cheaper than buying on the open market.

"My two bedroom apartment is a very nice, quiet third floor flat. Its open plan and I have a great view of the spinnaker tower at night." she said. "The process took a little longer than expected but overall I'm very happy with my new home. I'm still in the process of buying furniture and other items but so pleased to finally be a homeowner."
