With Lovell's help, first-time buyers Jemma & Simon have found the perfect home for their growing family.

Following the arrival of baby Arya - a sister for 11-year-old Ethan in February, the family are looking forward to moving into their brand-new three-bedroom house at Lovell's Montague Place development in Townhill Park.

Continuing to live in the neighbourhood was something that the family very much wanted, explains occupational therapist Jemma, 34. "It's very important for us to stay in the area as we love it here. My son goes to Bitterne Park School and we like being so close to the river. There's a lot of regeneration work going on and the area is changing all the time.

"We spoke to Lovell at the homes show at the Hampshire Cricket Ground and found out they were building near us. Living so close, we could see the development going up but at that stage we were still thinking we would probably buy an older property. Then we found out about Help to Buy scheme for new-build homes and this made a big difference. We haven't had to pay such a big deposit up front, and our mortgage payments will be cheaper."

Using Help to Buy, Jemma and 32-year-old Simon, a physiotherapist, have only had to find a five per cent deposit for their home. The Government provides a 20 per cent equity loan which is interest-free for the first five years.

"For us, this is the perfect first-time buy," says Jemma. "We have the extra bedroom and outdoor space we wanted and the security of knowing that we have a brand-new home, covered by a ten-year NHBC warranty. We are good with money and had managed to build up some savings, but being able to take advantage of Help to Buy has still been a great benefit, especially with house prices going up all the time."

The family will move into their new home later this year. Buying off-plan has also given them the chance to decide on some of the interior finishes for their new home, such as selecting the bathroom tiles, kitchen work units and flooring.
