First -time buyers Jordan and Vikki step on the property ladder with Help to Buy

First-time buyers Jordan Burton and Vikki Newbold have just opened the door to their new home at Strawberry Fields, Taylor Wimpey's popular development in Locks Heath, Southampton, thanks to the Government's Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme.

The couple were handed the keys to their brand new two-bedroom apartment at the end of November 2015, after deciding to move in together and purchase their first property.

Jordan, who works as an IT training consultant, says: "Before moving to Strawberry Fields I was renting a property in Bedhampton, which is about 14 miles away, while my girlfriend Vikki was living in Southampton, so when we decided to move in together we looked at buying a property.

"The main reason we decided to go for a new-build home was because we could use the Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme, which we found really helpful."

Using Help to Buy, first-time buyers as well as existing homeowners can secure a Government loan for up to 20% of their new home's full price, so they only need a 75% mortgage and a deposit as low as 5%. The scheme is available on new-build homes up to the value of £600,000 and there's no salary cap for purchasers making use of the initiative.

"Help to Buy was really straightforward and it definitely gave us a better understanding of our price range and what deposit we needed," says Jordan. "Being able to use this scheme also helped us to make the decision to go for our apartment.

"What also appealed to us about the property was the fact it has a balcony and two bedrooms - it's just perfect for us and we've managed to get everything we wanted. It's the perfect size for us as well, as we've got the spare room so we have extra storage space."

Jordan and Vikki found the development offered the perfect location to purchase their first property. "When we looked at Strawberry Fields we thought it was in a great location and we have everything we need nearby," continues Jordan. "The overall development is really nice and it definitely looks like it does in the pictures, so we're really happy to live here.

"In the local area we have supermarkets and shopping centres and Locks Heath is situated in between Portsmouth and Southampton so both are within easy reach, which is handy as I work in Portsmouth and Vickie works as an assistant manager in Southampton. Plus Vikki's mum lives just over the road from us!"

The customer service provided by Taylor Wimpey staff helped the pair to make a hassle-free house move. Jordan adds: "The Taylor Wimpey staff were great and the sales team was really responsive. When we moved in they helped us by showing us around so we knew where everything was. It was a nice process buying with them and we're enjoying settling in."
